Bunny Thumper Challenge

bunny-thumper-contest.jpg
Ruby says she’s up to a challenge. A bunny thumper challenge. Big feets!! I explained to her that it’s really not fair comparing Maine Coons to other cats and at least one prize has to be by random selection and one prize should be for dainty feet (Maine Coons are not known for dainty anythings). So here it is:

Post a picture of your cat(s)’s bunny thumper (the rear foot) with a ruler next to it (if your cat will stay still long enough), along with the measurement from longest toe to the end of the heel (like you were measuring your cat for socks) and mention the link in your comment to this post so Ruby can go look. Full grown cats only. (sorry baby kitties) One entry per cat. (so Blogless Kim if you had a blog you’d get X number of entries. Just leave me the measurements in your comment or by email)

1 knitterly prize for the longest foot.
1 knitterly prize for the daintiest (shortest) foot.
1 knitterly prize by random selection of all entrants.

Contest closes midnight January 17.

(Ruby also thinks we need to have a contest for widest cat butt but I nixed that plan.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~addendum~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fire Fighter Girl thinks she would be taking her life in her hands if she tries to measure and photographer Mimi’s bunny thumper. In cases such as this, try to include a photo w/o ruler, and publish the thumper length in your comment. Maybe taking the measurement while the little one naps.
    Miss Lulu could win as pinkest toes. Now, to see if I can get her next to a ruler…
    I am sorry Ruby, but I like my fingers attached and without claw marks. I am not going to try and measure Mimi’s thumper for you. Meezers are very funny about being touched. Maybe she will let me get a good photo for you of her thumb. Would you allow her to enter your contest under the thumb category? I promise you that she really does know how to use it.
    And she was offended that you would want to have a widest butt category for cats only. She feels that it would be more interesting if it was for the humans cats own.
    I just posted pictures and measurements on my blog. My Hazel has 4.75 inch bunny thumpers, and my 9 month old cat (totally understand if his age disqualifies him) has 5 inch bunny thumpers. 😮 Yep, he’s going to be a big boy.     Sannybug’s foot length, of http://sannybugknits.wordpress.com (post will be ready as soon as I get the second kitty photoed….if I can catch her that is), is 4.75 inches she is 11.5yrs old, and Charlie’s foot length is 4.50 inches she is 3yrs old. Sannybug is a Manx mix and Charlie despite bein fat is a very daintilly boned Tuxedo kitty. In my blog I will also post pics and sizes for my 2 14 wk old boys who I am sure will have feet longer than either girl 🙂
    My cats were still groggy from their late afternoon nap, so I was able to establish that Somerset (11 years) is very dainty with her 4 and 3/8 inch Bunny Thumper, and Greedo (10 years) is a manly 5 and 3/4 inches! See it all here:http://purlthis.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumper-contest.html
    This was definitely a curious experience. Having 3 hands might have helped! For a while, <a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/21456415@N08/2193290557/”this was all I could get Felix to agree to. He mistakenly thought that me sitting next to him with a tape measure was some sort of new game involving rubbing his head up and down the tape. I finally petted him into a frenzy of purring that let me (very quickly) put the tape measure somewhat in <a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/21456415@N08/2194077060/in/photostream/”place.
    Final result – Felix’s thumpers are a respectable 5.75″
I for one admire their honesty and self-perception in doing the world a favor and not breeding and burdening the world with their offspring.
    My camera is being moody and difficult about whether or not it actually has battery power (despite fresh batteries). The photos are forthcoming (I hope). But Zander’s thumpers are 5.25 inches long. There are five felines in this household, and he’s the biggest of all possible cats so I’m submitting his. Goodness, this is fun!
    Fun contest idea! I’ve got my two cats bunny thumpers measured. I really didn’t realize how difficult it would be to photograph the thumper of a hairy black Maine Coon with zero interest in playing along with me. My three year old cats are Penny (8.5 lbs with a 5 inch foot and 1.25 inch toes – a fourth of her foot length is in her toes!) and Ozzy (a large, black Maine Coon, with feet somewhere between 5.75 and 6 – I’ll say 5.75 because I think its closer to that then 6?). Their photos are here…
