First thank you all for the kind words about the loss of our Rosemary and our family friend Jack. It helped a lot. So did a trip out of town.
Friday night we had spagetti for dinner. I’d made a batch of sauce the weekend before and froze it. Came out great. No photos – we ate it before I thought about it. Sent the leftover sauce and lots of food home with Graham yesterday. Pebbles the Cat joined us again for the night. He was waiting for us on the picnic table when we got back from our island drive. Such a nice cat, well mannered, quiet and was good about asking to go out for a few minutes to go to the bathroom and then would come back. Meanwhile I spun and knitted.
Saturday we took the mid morning ferry boat over to San Juan Island. We hadn’t been there in 9-10 years that we could remember so a lot had changed. Friday Harbor had grown, more houses and condos. We spotted these two guys that had just picked up this treasure at a garage sale for $2!!
The island transit wasn’t running this time of year so we took a taxi (Bob’s Taxi) out to Roche Habor for lunch. The grill was closed, the restaurant wasn’t going to open until dinner so we decided to walk around, have lunch at the cafe and then call Bob’s Taxi and head back to Friday Harbor. ‘cept we didn’t notice that the Cafe closed at 2, it was 2:04 when we tried the front door, it was 2:06 when Knitting Hubby came back from the restroom and said the cafe staff told him we’d just missed Martha Stewart and her entourage and about 2:15 when a corporate helicopter flew over. (we’d seen it in the field above the hotel). Guess she likes the place (Hotel de Haro) and had used it and its gardens in a “Best Places to have a Wedding” spread last year. The staff told us she was real nice.
So after getting pretty disgusted that the Hotel de Haro and the Roche Harbor Store now looked like they were at the Alamo (even been to San Anronio? Spoiler here ha ha – the Alamo is surrounded by a bunch of retail businesses and isn’t sitting there all by itself like in the movies) we called Bob’s Taxi and he took us back to Friday Harbor. Had a great dinner, then took the ferry back to Orcas, sock knitting happened. I had to put in time at the office on my laptop at the cabin. During Thanksgiving weekend. Boo hoo. Pebbles stopped by a little late smelling of camp fire and s’mores. Wonder who he’d been visiting???
Yesterday we had to say bye to Pebbles way before sunrise to get in line for one of the few ferries back to Anacortes. Got to see another beautiful sunrise from the boat. Someone though tried to sleep through it all.
