Yarn crawl with kidnapping

Ok I am sure we are just amateurs in the world of yarn crawls, but we are going to give it a good try this weekend. Even more blogless Nancy will be joining me on the Whale Watch tour this weekend since Knitting Hubby was called away to the land of no yarn stores (where in the world is Ellicottville NY anyway??). Seems that the nearest LYS’s to where he is are well over an hour away.

So we are going to try to hit the following. Hilltop East right as it opens at 11 on Friday. Then up to the U area to visit Acorn Street and Weaving Works, maybe the Fiber Gallery and a stop for lunch somewhere. Then head north to Wild Fibers in Mt Vernon and Knot Just Yarn in Burlington before heading west to Anacortes. A guy I work with is putting together a list of good restaurants in Anacortes for us. Any comments on the last 3 shops? I’ve never been to those.

There was going to be a planned kidnapping during the yarn crawl but the kidnapee was unable to escape her spousal obligations for the weekend. She even tried posting an ad on Craigslist for a stand-in wife but no one has answered. Not going to tell who it was going to be – but she knows…and she is home sulking.

Around here what we consider culture is usually far and very few between. (you can tell when the highlight of the week is Friday Night Knit Night) We used to get great concerts, BB King, The Moody Blues etc, the last one we went to was the Little River Band (Happy Aniversary, It’s a Long Way There, Cool Change) and Knitting Hubby had even won the free tickets to it! Well on the 17th the Grass Roots (Midnight Confessions) will be performing and then on the 24th “The Guess Who “ (American Woman, These Eyes). I have been singing all the hits since I heard they were both coming. In my book you just can’t go wrong with mid to late 1960’s rock. Heck, I’ve even been known to sing along to Tommy James & The Shondells.

I love The Guess Who (I think it’s obligatory for Canadians 40 & up).

Um, I think that when you’re going to kidnap someone, you DON’T tell them in advance. You casually ask her to come out to the car to see some yarn you’ve bought. It’s already on the floor in the back seat. When she climbs in to pick it up, you slam the door and drive off! Sheesh.
Not that I’ve ever done this. Well, not as an adult, anyway.

The kidnapping would have gone like this… the car pulls up. Before the engine is off and S and Nancy have opened their doors the back door is ripped open, an overnight bag full of knitting slams against the far door followed quickly by a blurred body. The back door slams shut and the kidnappee yells “Hit it!”

Sigh. I’m sure that mingling with the other military members’ wives will be fun… really. I’d love a Stepford robot to stand in for the occasion. It’s so hard to smile, nod and keep my mouth shut around these people.

Hope you have fun. Take lots of pictures. Maybe you can coerce a whale into posing with a sock in progress!

Wow guys! That sounds like a blast. We need to plan a fall weekend retreat. After hunting season and junior is healed…of course!
