So you don’t forget that I have that cat painting contest going, here is hint #2. It was painted in the early 17th Century.

I have become obsessed with this quest 🙂
Franz Hals? One of the other Hals? Rembrandt, Rubens?
Last night I had a brainstorm and came up with Velasquez — right period, right style — but I couldn’t find the cat in the few paintings I could find online. (All my art history books are packed away.)
Clearly, I haven’t found the painting yet, going for the artist first. I figure it must be from a genre painting or possibly a portrait of some noble, but probably not from a painting of a religious subject, a still life, or an allegory.
Dutch vs. Flemish: I am unclear of the political entities at that time, so that is another quandary for me.
Back to the hunt…
