Bunny Thumper Challenge

Ruby says she’s up to a challenge. A bunny thumper challenge. Big feets!! I explained to her that it’s really not fair comparing Maine Coons to other cats and at least one prize has to be by random selection and one prize should be for dainty feet (Maine Coons are not known for dainty anythings). So here it is:
Post a picture of your cat(s)’s bunny thumper (the rear foot) with a ruler next to it (if your cat will stay still long enough), along with the measurement from longest toe to the end of the heel (like you were measuring your cat for socks) and mention the link in your comment to this post so Ruby can go look. Full grown cats only. (sorry baby kitties) One entry per cat. (so Blogless Kim if you had a blog you’d get X number of entries. Just leave me the measurements in your comment or by email)
1 knitterly prize for the longest foot.
1 knitterly prize for the daintiest (shortest) foot.
1 knitterly prize by random selection of all entrants.
Contest closes midnight January 17.
(Ruby also thinks we need to have a contest for widest cat butt but I nixed that plan.)

Fire Fighter Girl thinks she would be taking her life in her hands if she tries to measure and photographer Mimi’s bunny thumper. In cases such as this, try to include a photo w/o ruler, and publish the thumper length in your comment. Maybe taking the measurement while the little one naps.
Miss Lulu could win as pinkest toes. Now, to see if I can get her next to a ruler…
I am sorry Ruby, but I like my fingers attached and without claw marks. I am not going to try and measure Mimi’s thumper for you. Meezers are very funny about being touched. Maybe she will let me get a good photo for you of her thumb. Would you allow her to enter your contest under the thumb category? I promise you that she really does know how to use it.
And she was offended that you would want to have a widest butt category for cats only. She feels that it would be more interesting if it was for the humans cats own.
I’m off to stalk my cats.
I shall attempt to photograph my kitties’ feetses. I doubt that Tasha will even stir, but I’ve no idea how Bonny will react to being touched. She’s an “independent” kitty.
What about canine cats? Do they count?
My Yuki has bunny thumpers that are as cute as any cat’s!
I just posted pictures and measurements on my blog. My Hazel has 4.75 inch bunny thumpers, and my 9 month old cat (totally understand if his age disqualifies him) has 5 inch bunny thumpers.
Yep, he’s going to be a big boy. Here’s the link http://craftylilly.typepad.com/yarnandbeads/2008/01/the-bunny-thump.html
Well, that was certainly a challenge! May has 4.5-4.75″ bunny thumpers and Chaos has 5.5″.
My cat Tigger came in with 5.75 inches of bunny bumper love! I posted a picture of it on my blog http://www.scrapovers.com/blog/?p=216
And here’s my entry. Both cats measure in at around 5″ which looks to be a fairly average size.
Sannybug’s foot length, of http://sannybugknits.wordpress.com (post will be ready as soon as I get the second kitty photoed….if I can catch her that is), is 4.75 inches she is 11.5yrs old, and Charlie’s foot length is 4.50 inches she is 3yrs old. Sannybug is a Manx mix and Charlie despite bein fat is a very daintilly boned Tuxedo kitty. In my blog I will also post pics and sizes for my 2 14 wk old boys who I am sure will have feet longer than either girl
Alright, Pan and Java have joined in here: http://stariel.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
We’ve posted photos (and a video, but not of behind paws) and a description here:
http://knitnana.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
(((hugs)))
Scout, Cleo, Elly want to join in, too!
See their entries here:
http://www.houseofwoolrepute.com/?p=71
(Incidentally, Scout is a full-grown cat. She’s a little more than 5 years old.)
Kitty feet were measured and I have all my fingers still! Callie was 4.75″ and Peaches is 4.5″. Seems to be about average.
Whoo hoo! I have pictures of Bonny and Tasha’s Thumpers out on my blog now.
My cats were still groggy from their late afternoon nap, so I was able to establish that Somerset (11 years) is very dainty with her 4 and 3/8 inch Bunny Thumper, and Greedo (10 years) is a manly 5 and 3/4 inches! See it all here:http://purlthis.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumper-contest.html
Hi there, caught her mid nap. Looks like 4.75-5. SHe is very fuzzy and it was difficult to see the joints and bends! She is about a year old, we guess. Someone moved last spring and must have abandonded her, so she adopted us. We call her Stalker. Here is the link though.

4 inches and 4.5 inches
Our canine cat tried to participate too, but she doesn’t count I’m sure. Pictures here: http://knitowl.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumper-challenge.html
Thumper may not have the longest foot (5″), but how many have feet that are 1 3/4 inches wide ?
I guess putting the url in the url field doesn’t count:

Lucy’s bunny thunmpers are 3.5″ long
http://wendyknits.net/archives/1499
This was definitely a curious experience. Having 3 hands might have helped! For a while, <a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/21456415@N08/2193290557/”this was all I could get Felix to agree to. He mistakenly thought that me sitting next to him with a tape measure was some sort of new game involving rubbing his head up and down the tape. I finally petted him into a frenzy of purring that let me (very quickly) put the tape measure somewhat in <a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/21456415@N08/2194077060/in/photostream/”place.
Final result – Felix’s thumpers are a respectable 5.75″
Lol, well that attempt at inserting the links failed miserably. The pics are at:

and

I couldn’t resist this challenge! Artemis has a modest 5.125″ bunny thumper, while Apollo’s is somewhere between 5.75 and 6″. See them here:
http://indigomouse.net/?p=252
can the blogless still enter? my 17 pound cat has GOT to be a top contender! where do I send my photo??
My big ginger guy (Dude Man) measures up at 5″, and the little calico (Thisbe) is 4.25″. Also, she put some teethmarks in my plastic ruler! Mmmm…delicious polymers.
Princess Micha. Yes, we call her that. And with a silly voice. It is required. Well, the Princess has 5 inch bunny thumpers. See ‘em here:
http://knitting-knot.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
My Ollie’s bunny thumper measures 5 1/4″
I’ll post a pic on my blog: http://NotJustAboutKnitting.blogspot.com
More accurately, my Ollie’s 5 1/4″ bunny thumper picture is at the bottom of my blog on this day: http://notjustaboutknitting.blogspot.com/2008/01/change-of-plans.html
This is too fun.
Here’s my average-size orange tiger cat’s bunny thumpers:
http://hitherandyarn.wordpress.com/2008/01/16/bompers/
– 4 3/4 inches, for the record.
Someone’s got to be in the middle!
http://tygerlotus.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumper-challenge.html
I’m not so good with posting links… oh well. Some big bunny thumpers here! I’ve got 4.5, 4.75, 5.25, and 5.5″ bunny thumpers – no, not on the same cat! Four kitties, all slightly different. And quite average it looks like!
Yay for Bunny Thumpers!
Here’s mine: http://yarnbeans.typepad.com/yarnbeans/
I can’t wait to see who has the biggest! hee hee!
Wow, that was a fun experience! My cats chalked in at 5 1/2, 5 1/2 and 5 inches. Not petite my felines
How funny to see all the kitty feet. Quite an experience!
Here is our contribution -
http://notonlyamom.com/2008/01/16/little-cat-feet/
at 4.5, 5 and 5.5 inches.
Thanks so much!
My camera is being moody and difficult about whether or not it actually has battery power (despite fresh batteries). The photos are forthcoming (I hope). But Zander’s thumpers are 5.25 inches long. There are five felines in this household, and he’s the biggest of all possible cats so I’m submitting his. Goodness, this is fun!
This was too fun. My cats aren’t hostile, thank goodness, just squirmy.
Mango — 5.75 inches.
Butter — 5.50 inches.
Midnight — 4.50 inches.
Fun contest idea! I’ve got my two cats bunny thumpers measured. I really didn’t realize how difficult it would be to photograph the thumper of a hairy black Maine Coon with zero interest in playing along with me. My three year old cats are Penny (8.5 lbs with a 5 inch foot and 1.25 inch toes – a fourth of her foot length is in her toes!) and Ozzy (a large, black Maine Coon, with feet somewhere between 5.75 and 6 – I’ll say 5.75 because I think its closer to that then 6?). Their photos are here…
http://bea-blacksheep.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
Milo and Eva tried to stay still for photos. But they were not excited about it.
http://chickenknits.blogspot.com/2008/01/big-bunny-thumpers.html
I tried! Milo’s bunny thumper is 5 inches and Eva’s is 5.5 inches. They are big kitties. So they need big feet!
My two kitties are here:
http://tuabella.blogspot.com/2008/01/paws.html
Both Bellatrix L’Orange and Karlton are around 5 inches.
Well, clearly she didn’t win, but Laila’s got at least 5 3/8″ bunny thumpers. Which, sadly, she’s used to thump a lot of bunnies.
http://secretyarn.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
Maybe I’ll go for the artistic photo competition.
You know – I was starting to leave the link to my entry with my cats feet – and I look up and I’ve already done it (#49). My apologies!! I don’t remember doing it and I don’t know what I did (because it looks wrong!!). Sorry – don’t mean to be a duplicate poster and a bad one who doesn’t know what she’s doing at that!!
here ya go:
the tubby 18 year old (no, its not a typo) is 3.75″ and the wily 7 year old is 3.4″, link is http://sophiekatknits.blogspot.com/2008/01/bunny-thumpers.html
Okay, I posted photos on my blog: http://www.andi-woundtootight.blogspot.com
Diesel has 5″ bunny thumpers – and he did NOT appreciate my interrupting him to get my measurements. Snorted at me even. He’s a big, lanky Maine Coon and my sweetie pie.
The cats are very excited to be in a contest (not). The results:
Damian: 5-1/2″
Archy: 5″
Maggie: 4-1/2″
See their feet in all their glory at http://www.whatifknits.com
I am posting a photo now to my blog of my Solara’s thumber. You can find it here: http://pennypurlsandkittyknits.blogspot.com/
Oh I missed it! I have the BEST . AL made them a year or so ago. I may have to post them.
Here’s my contribution: http://peaknit.blogspot.com/2008/01/prjoect-spectrum.html
My cat’s thumper is between 5.5 and 5.75″ – he is awful hairy so it is a bit tricky to tell. What a fun contest and another great opportunity for me to snuggle with my cat – he thanks you!:)
My Topaz is so tiny she doesn’t have a chance of winning for the largest foot. She was in a bad mood today so wasn’t up to letting me measure her foot anyway. Her loss…
